The exhibition organized
by the Information Department of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariate jointly
with the State Archival Service of Ukraine presents 88 documents and
photographs from the collections of leading central archival institutions. They
show drafting and adoption of the Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine
on August 24, 1991.
The documents from the funds of the Central State Archive of the Higher Bodies of Power and Administration of Ukraine, the Central State Archive of the Non-Governmental Organizations of Ukraine, the Central State CinePhotoPhono Archive of Ukraine named after H.S.Pshenychnyi, and Sectorial State Archive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine show a complicated period of Ukraine´s transition from the status of a USSR republic to the independent state: growth of public political activity, cancellation of the monopoly of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union on political power, formation of a multiparty system, declaration of independence of Ukraine and confirmation of this historic choice of the Ukrainian people at the all-Ukrainian referendum on December 1, 1991. The exhibits also show important events of the past twenty years such as adoption of the Constitution of Ukraine at the fifth session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on June 28, 1996.
